How long does gelato Messina last?

All our specials last for seven days from the day they are posted unless they sell out in advance. This means If a flavour comes out on Tuesday, the last time you can get it is Monday night, before the store closes.

Who owns Messina?

Gelato Messina started in 2002 by Nick Palumbo (he now co-owns it with Donato Toce, Declan Lee, Danny Palumbo and John Stephens), a first-generation Australian with a family background in Messina, Italy. At age 8, he visited Messina and met his grandparents.

Is Messina open?

Stores are still open, and we encourage you to come get your fix. We are obviously encouraging customers to steer clear of stores if you are feeling unwell.

How many Messina stores are there in Australia?

We currently have 15 stores in NSW, 4 in VIC, 2 in QLD, 2 in the ACT and 1 in Hong Kong! For all gelato cake orders or enquiries, you can order online, or click on the store you wish to order from and call them directly after 12 pm.

Is there raw egg in gelato?

Unlike ice cream, gelato isn’t traditionally made with raw egg, but there are some flavours that do include it. We always asked in each gelateria, and found that it tends to be the creamy, yellow-coloured gelato that includes egg, for example crema or zabaglione.

People often ask us ‘is gelato vegan? ‘ and the answer is no because it is made with milk and cream. We have experimenting with making gelato using milk substitutes in the past but unfortunately the flavour is not as good as when made with dairy.

Gelato typically offers fewer calories, less sugar and lower fat content per serving than ice cream. The typical 3.5 oz. serving of vanilla gelato contains 90 calories and 3 grams of fat, compared to 125 calories and 7 grams of fat in the average vanilla ice cream.
